Welcome! I’m Cathy Anderson, an award-winning professional portrait photographer based in Morganton, North Carolina, serving clients across the Blue Ridge Mountains and surrounding areas, including Asheville, Charlotte, Boone, Hickory, Marion, and Gastonia. I create portraits for people who want something more interesting than the same safe photos everyone else gets. Whether I’m photographing a senior, athlete, family, couple, or adventure session, I want the final images to feel crafted, expressive, and impossible to confuse with anyone else’s photos.

WHAT MAKES ME DIFFERENT?  Before the camera ever comes out, I take time to get to know you. We’ll talk through location, clothing, style, comfort level, and what you want your photos to feel like. That planning builds trust, takes away some of the awkwardness, and makes it easier to feel confident once we start. I do not believe great portraits come from dropping people into the same poses and hoping for the best. No matter who I am photographing, the session is shaped around the person, family, athlete, or couple in front of me. The dramatic look in my images is not created by AI. It comes from traditional studio lighting, strong composition, and doing the work in-camera during the session instead of trying to fix everything later in Photoshop. I want the final images to feel like they were made with skill, direction, and a point of view, not like the same safe photos everyone else gets. I’m a second-generation photographer with decades of experience, a national photography educator, and a proud holder of three professional degrees from the Professional Photographers of America: Certified Professional Photographer, Master Photographer, and Photographic Craftsman. I’ve taught at Imaging USA, ShutterFest, SYNC, and for Canon USA.
