Welcome! I’m Cathy Anderson, a portrait photographer based in Morganton, North Carolina, specializing in family, senior, adventure, and sportrait photography. I work with clients throughout Western North Carolina and the Blue Ridge Mountains, including Asheville, Hickory, Marion, Boone, Gastonia, and Charlotte. My portraits are for people who want more than the same safe pictures they have seen a hundred times. I want your images to have personality, purpose, and enough of a point of view that they could never be mistaken for someone else’s. I’m also an award-winning Master Photographer with years of experience creating portraits with professional lighting and a creative approach.

WHAT MAKES ME DIFFERENT?  The work starts before I ever pick up the camera. Before portrait day, we’ll talk through details about your session and address any questions or worries you may have.  Getting those decisions out of the way ahead of time takes away a lot of the uncertainty. By the time the session arrives, you’ll know what to expect, feel more comfortable with me, and be able to relax in front of the camera. That planning gives us a clear direction and helps the portraits feel more natural from the start. I do not believe great portraits come from putting everyone into the same poses and hoping something works. Every session is shaped around the person, family, athlete, or couple in front of me. The dramatic look in my work is not created with AI. It comes from traditional studio lighting, strong composition, and doing the work in-camera. I would rather create the image properly during the session than rely on Photoshop to rescue it later. I’m a second-generation photographer with decades of experience, a national photography educator, and the holder of three professional degrees from Professional Photographers of America: Certified Professional Photographer, Master Photographer, and Photographic Craftsman. I’ve taught at Imaging USA, ShutterFest, SYNC, and for Canon USA.

I’ll help plan the session, guide the posing, tell you what to do with your hands, and make adjustments as we go.
